Having come through the youth system at his local club, Jony signed for Real Sporting de Gijón in 2013, which would become the club he holds most closely to his heart. Just one year later, the midfielder made his debut and scored his first goal for the first team, in the Spanish second division.
In 2016, his move to Málaga CF was made official. In January, after his time at the Andalusian club, he returned to Sporting to see out the rest of the season there.
Thanks to his impressive performances towards the end of the season, Deportivo Alavés decided to add Jony to their ranks for the 2018/2019 season on loan. Throughout the season, he scored four goals and provided eleven assists, drawing attention from several clubs.
In the summer of 2019, Jony moved to Italy, making his debut for SS Lazio in no less than a Rome derby game. The next summer, in 2020, Osasuna set his eyes on Jony to reinforce the center of the field.
